What UAE shower water actually is

Most UAE tap water starts as seawater. Desalination makes it safe and drinkable — and to keep it safe through the network, it's disinfected with chlorine. Then it travels through district pipes, your building's rooftop tank, and internal plumbing before it hits your shower.

The result: perfectly safe water that is also chlorinated and often carries fine sediment and rust from tanks and ageing pipes — neither of which your hair or skin enjoys daily.

What chlorine does to hair and skin

Chlorine is an oxidiser. It strips the natural oils that keep hair flexible and skin comfortable. Daily exposure is linked to dryness, dullness, faster colour fade, and irritation for sensitive skin. Dermatologists in the UAE press have made the same point for years — while also noting hair loss has many causes (genetics, stress, diet). A filter is not a hair-loss cure, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling too hard.

What a shower filter honestly does — and doesn't

Does: multi-stage media (KDF-55, calcium sulfite, activated carbon) dramatically reduces free chlorine at shower temperatures, and fleece layers catch sediment and rust — you'll see it on the cartridge.

Doesn't: soften hard water. Calcium and magnesium pass through every shower filter on the market; removing them takes a whole-home softener. We say this plainly because it's true.
